I have no words to describe the brilliant lecture Katharine Viner, deputy editor of the Guardian and
editor-in-chief of Guardian Australia, gave last Wednesday in Melbourne. Ms.
Viner spoke about the mission of Journalism in the era of internet,
understanding it more like an activist way of life than a profession (“People
are performing acts of journalism everywhere”). In the lecture there is an
undeniable defense of a Journalism totally committed with freedom. She also analyzes
the main doubts about its business models (paywalls), the applications of web measurements
and the interaction with the “People
formerly known as the Audience”, the real center of this new Journalism.
An enlightening text. One of
those that become essential.
